Outfit: Dark green and gold suit

Character Canon: Legend of Korra
Link to History: History
Canon Point: End of Ruins of the Empire (February 2020) / Deer Country CRAU from June
Canon Iteration: CRAU
Canon Iteration Explanation: In Deer Country and Deerington, Wu went through hell. He died by Lucifer burning him from the inside out, he lost his now-husband once to lightning, and another time nearly to corruption. It wasn't all bad, though: he renounced his claim to the Earth Kingdom throne, he got double married, he's psychically connected to his husband, he started a thriving business, he made a best friend. Wu is still the same guy at his core, but he's more resilient, he's older, smarter, sharper, slightly less naive.
★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills: Diplomacy, banter, conversation, mediation
Canon Abilities: No canon abilities. CRAU abilities: Wu is a paleblood from Deer Country, meaning that he's an empath and can sense others' feelings. He can also read surface thoughts or see memories if he touches someone. The closer he is, emotionally, to that person, he easier they are to read. He also has summon hallucinations and influence people's feelings and thoughts. He is also connected to his Omen, a raccoon named Fritter, who can be summoned at will. Lastly, he can turn into a squid sometimes, if he's stressed or scared or just needs to Chill.
Role: Myth
Role Qualities/Attributes: Curly dark gold horns, a gold scaly tail, blunt gold claws. Faster reflexes, increased luck, quick learner.
Role Reasoning: Wu is individualistic. He's out for himself, he's selfish, he thinks of himself first. He can be greedy, arrogant, and inconsiderate. He isn't a bad person, in that he isn't out to be cruel, but he is out for himself first and foremost.

OPTION 2

What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?
THe most traumatic thing that ever happened to Wu was when he died in Deerington. It was a senseless death, with Wu simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was chased, goaded, and ultimately burned up from the inside out, leaving his ghost behind for one of his best friends, Raleigh, and his future-husband, Mako, to witness. This death changed him not so much in the dying, but in the aftermath. It made him more resilient, and showed him exactly how much he means to other people. Mako essentially broke after his death, turning to his work and working himself into sickness. Their relationship fractured, as did his friendship with Raleigh, who had to have the memory of reliving Wu's death through his ghost removed from his mind, it affected him so much. Before this, Wu never believed that he meant much of anything to anyone, and had to prove his worth every day, but seeing two people he cared deeply about made him feel loved in a way he had never experienced before, and made him feel a deep sense of connection. He learned how much he can affect others, and that he's worth something in this world. Also, he discovered Lil Nas X during a conversation post-death, which truly changed his life.

What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why?
Wu's most defining relationship is with his Great Aunt, the former Queen of the Earth Kingdom. As the last two remaining members of their family, Wu was her ward for much of his life, and lived in her shadow. She wasn't a kind person, to him or anyone, and was a tyrant who cared more for tax money than her people. Wu tried to not be like her, but she was also his only real role model, and one of his core struggles is figuring out how to reject what he was told to be. When he isn't at his best, he falls back into acting like her: selfish, cruel, cold. When he's thriving, he's able to reject the things that she valued and live more as himself, free of what was expected of him.

Is your character capable of forgiveness or will they hold a grudge until they die? Would anything ever make them change their mind?
Wu can hold a grudge, but only when it doesn't matter, for example: against a store or brand. If he holds a grudge against a person, that grudge will usually fall away as soon as he's faced with that person's humanity. He had a grudge against Mako's brother, Bolin, who worked for Kuvira, the woman who usurped his throne, but as soon as Bolin became a real person in Wu's mind, he wasn't able to hold that grudge. His very justified grudge against Kuvira was somewhat alleviated when she worked to help Team Avatar, even if part of her motivation was selfish. Her humanity showed through, and he was no longer able to pretend that she was simply a force of evil. He even can't fully blame his Great Aunt for her actions, knowing that she was a person, and knowing that somehow, he did love her, even through she was cruel to him.

However, grudges against things that aren't people? He can hold forever. Some part of him knows that they're not important and don't do anything, but if that smoothie shop slighted him that one time? He'll glare at it as he passes for the rest of time.

What is a time where your character failed drastically at something and how did it impact them, what did they do about it?
Wu failed to lead his country in a time of crisis. After the Red Lotus killed the Queen and threw the Earth Kingdom into chaos, Wu didn't step up. He put his trust in Kuvira and in President Raiko, and should have done neither. Kuvira usurped his throne on what was supposed to be his coronation day, he was gallivanting around Republic City while Kuvira was imprisoning any Earth Kingdom citizens who weren't earthbenders, and he neither knew, nor tried to know, anything about it. He chose to be ignorant, and failed his people.

The impact was slow progress, but progress all the time. He started trying, he started stepping up and to try and be the king his people (and Mako) expected him to be. He wanted to make Mako proud, and to show how he could lead his country, even if that isn't what he wanted to do at all.

Seeing what his Aunt and Kuvira did to his country made him feel conviction in the idea that a monarchy no longer served his country, and chose to abdicate his throne. His failures helped him to make the hard choice and put in the work to transition the Earth Kingdom into a series of democracies, when he could have just lived like his Aunt and holed away in his palace, ignoring the suffering of his people.
